3 Simple Ways to Check Bag Quality (Without a Lab)

By Mega Polybag Team  |  Updated: Dec 2025  |  Quality Control

When you receive a shipment of packaging, how do you know if it is "Good Quality" or "Cheap Quality"?

Most suppliers claim they use "Virgin Material," but often mix in cheap calcium (filler) or recycled plastic to save money. This makes the bag weak. At Mega Polybag, we believe in transparency. Here are 3 simple tests you can do right now in your office to check your bag.

1. The "Crush" Test (Virgin vs. Recycled)

Take a bag and crush it hard in your hand, like a ball of paper. Then release it.

2. The "Thumb" Test (Weaving Tightness)

Push your thumb hard against the fabric of the bag. Try to move the tapes apart.

If the tapes slide easily and create a gap (a hole), the weaving tension is loose. This bag will leak powder or grains during transport. A high-quality bag made on modern looms (like we use in Morbi) will have tight weaving that does not slip under pressure.

Why does this happen? Cheap manufacturers run their machines too fast to produce more bags, which reduces the weaving strength. We run at optimal speeds to ensure the fabric is "Gap-Free."

3. The "Smell" Test

Open the bundle and take a deep breath near the bags.

Virgin Polypropylene is odorless. If you smell a strong chemical odor, a burnt plastic smell, or a weird "dusty" smell, it indicates that the manufacturer has used low-grade recycled granules or cheap additives.

Conclusion

Don't pay Virgin prices for Recycled quality. Use these three tests on your current stock. If your bags fail, it's time to switch suppliers.
